Recreation
Recreation is voluntary participation in sport activities by individuals at their free or leisure time,
for the development of their physical, social, mental, and emotional well-being.
Components of recreation
Recreation has two main components:
Indoor Recreational activities:
These are activities that are performed under a roof, i.e., inside a hall or house.
Examples are
- Dancing
- Drawing and painting
- Reading and writing
- Playing ludo, cards, monopoly
Outdoor recreational activities:
These are activities that are performed outside or in an open place like a sports field, a beach, a park,
and all such places.
Examples are
- Walking
- Jogging
- Swimming
- Horse riding
- Camping
- Fishing
- Cycling
- Canoeing
Benefits of recreation
- It creates room for fun and enjoyment
- It makes individuals appreciate their environment
- It helps students learn how to make good use of their time
- It promotes mental alertness and creativity
