An illiterate person is someone who doesn't know how to read and write. On the other hand, a literate person is someone who can read and write.

  • Lack of access to learning materials.

CONSEQUENCES OF ILLITERACY

  • Ignorance, poverty, and disease.
  • Susceptibility to manipulation.
  • Ethnic violence.
  • Inhibition of technological development.
  • Denial of rights and abuse of rights.

EFFECTS OF ILLITERACY

  • An illiterate person is an ignorant person, so he will behave in an animalistic way.
  • Illiterate societies will never develop at all.
  • An illiterate person does not have the ability to improve his own nation.
  • An illiterate person cannot benefit himself and his community.
  • An illiterate person may find himself in drug trafficking or drug abuse.

SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM OF ILLITERACY

  • Adoption of enabling laws and policies.
  • Provision of access to road facilities.
  • Mass mobilization programs.
  • Legalizing compulsory education.
  • Government should provide good schools for free education.
  • Government should encourage literacy programs.
  • Provision of adequate facilities.
