Literature

Literature is a mirror of life. The term literature is used to describe written or spoken materials and works based on people's creative imagination. Literature can be categorized into four categories:

  • Oral literature
  • Written literature
  • Published literature
  • Unpublished literature
Oral literature:
Oral literature refers to spoken words based on people's creative imagination, like songs, myths, legends, and riddles (stories and sayings we hear from our parents and grandparents). Oral literature can be sung or recited.
Written literature:
Written literature refers to written words based on people's creative imagination. Written literature is different from oral literature because it is not in spoken words.
Published literature:
Published literature refers to words that have been put into books or magazines, such as storybooks.
Unpublished literature:
Unpublished literature refers to words that have not been put into books or magazines. Unpublished literature can be oral or written.

Genres of literature

  • Prose
  • Drama
  • Poetry
Prose:
This can be defined as a piece of writing in chapters and paragraphs.
Drama:
This can be defined as a piece of writing in acts and scenes to be performed on a stage before an audience.
Poetry:
This can be defined as a piece of writing in verse and stanzas.
