Simple Woodwork

Woodwork joints are used in assembling and fastening two or more pieces of wood together. The art and skills of joining wood are called joinery. Here are some of the common woodwork joints in projects:

  • Butt joint
  • Bridle joint
  • Halving joint
  • Mortise and tenon joint
  • Tongue and groove joint

Classes of Joints

Generally, joints used in construction work are classified into three main groups, namely:

Widening joint:
These are joints used in joining wood edges to produce wider boards.
Angle or box joint:
These are joints used to join pieces of wood faces to form right angles.
Farming objects:
These are joints used in construction of wood members joined end to end.
