Capitalization
Capitalization refers to the act of using a letter of the alphabet written in the large form
known as capital letters. A capital letter is also known as a upper case letter. Examples:
Daniel story sounded really exiting
samuel son named jeff
Rules of capitalization
Use the capital letter for the first letter of the first word of every sentences.
- Examples:
- Many people are generous to their friends
- Our teacher taught us how to pronounce clearly
- I like reading
- That is the best day ever
- Can you pass me the salt
Use a capital letter after every full stop or question mark or exclamation mark.
- Examples:
- Can you see me tonight? We need to discuss about something
- I am sorry friend. I did not do it intentionally
- What is are you doing? Am doing my home work
Use a capital to begin proper nouns, names of ethnic groups nationalities.
- Examples:
- Ade crossed the river
- He is living in America
- We are from China
- The website name is Matcite
- He is going to Nigeria
Use capital letter for the pronoun "I" when it stand alone, whether it appears at the
beginning or middle or end of a sentence.
- I know that I have a very good immune system
- I love eating cookies
- I love you
- I am sad
- He is the man I hate
Use capital letters for the names os sacred books, important festivals and follower of a
particular religion.
- Examples:
- The Holy Qur'an is the holy book of Muslims
- The Holy Bible is the holy book of Christians
Use capital letter for all academic degrees.
- Examples:
- Bachelor of Art = B.A
- Bachelor of science = B.S
- Bachelor of Law = LL.B
Use capital letter to begin title of books and films.
- Examples:
- I have watched Titanic
- I did not read Thing Fall Apart
- The name of the film is The Social Network
- Did you read your New General Mathematics text book
