ABC of first aid

ABC of First Aid

The ABC of first aid is an acronym for three primary things that need to be checked when approaching a victim of an accident.

  • A - Airway: This refers to ensuring the free flow of air in the victim's respiratory tract.
  • B - Breathing: This involves providing rescue breaths to the victim, which can be mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-nose breathing if the victim's mouth is injured or cannot be opened.
  • C - Circulation: This relates to restoring the flow of blood through chest compressions.

Application of ABC:

  • Calm the victim down without causing panic.
  • Attempt to stop any bleeding.
  • If there are breathing problems, perform rescue breathing.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the victim.
  • Avoid worsening the condition and focus on saving the victim's life.
  • Turn off the vehicle's engine if possible.
  • Transport the victim to a hospital or alert a healthcare facility or emergency services. Rescue Operations
